Patience - Part 1
Have you ever noticed that when you pray for patience, God will put you in situations where you need an abundance of patience? We just want the blessing of answered prayer - let us do what we want when we want, Lord, and we won't even have to worry about patience at all!
We can't begin to imagine God's purpose behind having us wait on Him. Whether it's staying calm in busy traffic. being patient around cranky people in the checkout line or waiting to see where your walk with the Lord will take you, finding patience in today's world can be a challenge.
Fortunately, God's Word has the answer to all our questions and can fulfill all of our daily needs. Even in the most frustrating of times, Scripture reminds us that there is a purpose for this moment, too.
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them that are called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28
We often take this verse for granted and think that God will bless whatever we end up choosing to do. Imagine the heartache and pain we could save ourselves if we simply trust in God's plan to be better than our own. Patience is waiting on the Lord to complete our lives in ways that will always work together for our good.
God's timing is often very confusing if we're not quiet enough to hear what He's trying to explain to us. That is when we get out ahead of His will and do things for ourselves. In our house we call this "kickin' down doors."
Are there any among the vanities of the Gentiles that can cause rain? or can the heavens give showers? art not thou he, O LORD our God? therefore we will wait upon thee: for thou hast made all these things. Jeremiah 14:22
I cannot possibly see the big picture from where I'm standing. This is the frustration of my impatience in life, but there is freedom in releasing all to God and allowing Him to control our ways. Patience is simply trusting in the One who has already seen the path ahead of me and following where He leads. Impatience is taking matters into my own hands and choosing not to see what wonderful things the Lord has in store for me on His path.
