Faith Defined
These days, people don't have a whole lot of faith in anything. You can tell that just by looking at their faces. Walk through the grocery store or your workplace. There's nothing there - they have no faith in the government, the people around them or even the fate of the world. And that explains all the dark, depressed looks that so many nonbelievers wear anymore.
And that's what makes Christians different. We've read the back of the book and know Who wins. We have a Bible full of promises and a life full of God's miracles to base our faith on. That explains the smile on my face - my faith.
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Hebrews 11:1
I have never seen God, but I have confidence that He exists. He moves in my life in such powerful ways that I cannot help but have faith in Him. I have never seen Heaven, but I have confidence that my faith in the Lord means I will see it someday. These are the things hoped for because of my faith in Him.
But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that his is, and that he is a rewarded of them that diligently seek him. Hebrews 11:6
What a sad place to be, not having faith in the Lord. I can't imagine going through life being unpleasing to God. But that's the consequence for those who don't believe. Coming to God in faith means putting complete trust in Him, having never seen Him, which is often what stands in the way of the lost.
My faith is what keeps me going. It's what gives me hope when the circumstances around me aren't so wonderful. It's how I can smile in the midst of trial and press on when the goal seems a million miles away. Faith is everything.

I love the Greek word definition
ReplyDeletepistis
pis'-tis
From G3982; persuasion, that is, credence; moral conviction (of religious truth, or the truthfulness of God or a religious teacher), especially reliance upon Christ for salvation; abstractly constancy in such profession; by extension the system of religious (Gospel) truth itself: - assurance, belief, believe, faith, fidelity.
To see all of this played out in our lives is so comforting and also a great responsibility.
I love the way you put it so simply. Having seen it played out in your life.

That is a fantastic way to see all the facets of the definition! Faith is such a foundation for who we are, but we sometimes take it for granted.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing this! What a blessing.
Have a wonderful day in the Lord.
