The Importance of Planning
Just in case you haven't figured it out yet - I'm a planner. I adore lists and researching gives me great joy. Being organized and prepared just makes me happy.
So I love the verses in Luke that show how important the Lord thinks preparation should be in a Christian woman's life.
For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it? Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him, Saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish. Or what king, going to make war against another king, sitteth not down first, and consulteth whether he be able with ten thousand to meet him that cometh against him with twenty thousand? Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sendeth an ambassage, and desireth conditions of peace. Luke 14:28-32
Whether it's a party, the day's to-do list or renovations on the house, it's always smart to have a plan. Otherwise, we might jump in to building our tower and not be able to complete it.
How do you create the perfect plan? Try these steps and see how the Lord directs your heart.
P - Pray. This is the very first step. We can't start any plan without talking to God about it first.
L - Listen. Wait on the Lord for His response to your prayer. His direction may be completely different than what you had in mind.
A - Analyze. Take a deep look at whatever you're working on from every angle. Think about the what-if's and the maybe's and put everything in writing.
N - Number. Prioritize. Some things need to be done first, others can wait and some are just wants. If you've got them in order, you won't waste time on the extra stuff.
N- Needs. Balance out the present and the future. Will planning this affect how you live in the moment? Are you more concerned about next month than right this very minute? Are you balancing your life, mind, body and soul?
I - Inspiration. This is the fun part. Do your research. See how other people have decorated for a party. Compare paint colors at the store to find the perfect shade for that room. Ask how that super-organized woman you know prepares for a new month. Glean what you can from the world around you and then make it fit into your own planning.
N - Name. Name your first step by deciding what actually needs to be done first. The only way to eat an elephant is to start with one bite, but you have to choose the perfect place to start.
G - Get to it! Enough writing and planning and preparation! Get started!
