A Game Of Scripture Tag

If you've never played Scripture Tag before, it's a fun way to study and learn Bible verses with a friend. You pick a topic, like forgiveness or mercy, and go back and forth giving the book, chapter and verse of Scripture on that topic.

You can play this game anywhere, but it's most fun to play by text. A friend and I played for most of an afternoon this week while we were doing other things around our respective houses. It only takes a minute to look up a Scripture, then you wait for the other person to text back with a follow-up verse. You look that one up in your Bible, then "tag, you're it!" as you send another verse. They'll look yours up and add another one.

This can go on indefinitely.

Try playing with a variety of topics and you're sure to discover some new gems as your friend shares her favorite verses.

So here's how ours began. I'm not going to type out the verses because reading them on your own is half the fun. Our topic was encouragement:

Romans 8:28

Psalm 143:12

Philippians 4:13

2 Thessalonians 3:3

John 11:27

1 Corinthians 15:58

Psalm 27:14

Joshua 1:9

We had to pause for a while as she was driving the kids home from school and then while I was actually talking on the phone. (You know you can use phones to make calls, too, right?)

Matthew 5:6

3 John 11

James 1:12

1 Samuel 7:3

Proverbs 31:25

Psalm 9:9

We also had to make some comments as we went, like mentioning that I had just read this verse in my morning devotion time. If there's something that you just need to shout "Glory!" over, make sure you do that, too.

Jeremiah 29:11

Ephesians 6:10-13

Philippians 2:13

Psalm 37:4

Psalm 37:5

Matthew 5:16

Scripture Tag really keeps you on your toes as you think of verses within your topic and where they are. Technically you could do a search for that topic and copy-and-paste, but that's cheating. Do as much as you can from memory. Then mark the verses your friend sends as you go so you'll remember what they shared with you.

I've also heard of this played as a youth group game, going around in the circle until each person is stumped. However you play it, you'll have these Scriptures on your heart long after the game is over. Keep track of the verses given and you'll have an extensive Bible study on a number of topics.
