In Honor Of Read Across America Day
I don’t need a special day to prompt me to read. With a healthy book addiction, I’m always working through two or three books at any given moment. And knowing a huge local book sale is coming up in just six weeks, I’m immersed in some older books to make room for the new ones.
So in honor of Read Across America Day, here are four books on my bookshelf right now:
* A Journey Into Prayer - Devotional Selections from Evelyn Christenson. I loved this author’s book What Happens When Women Pray, and found this lovely little devotional. With a great prayer-related Scripture and just two pages of devotion each day, it’s a good, simple read to start the day with.
* Whispers and Wildflowers by Sarah Beth Marr. I learned about this amazing writer on Ann Voskamp’s website, A Holy Experience. Sarah Beth Marr is a ballet dancer, and her beautifully descriptive writing have me looking forward to devotion time. I don’t like the mix of Bible versions she uses, but I have my Bible on hand to read the references. And having journaling space at the end of each day makes it easy to write down thoughts and prayers.
* Rediscover Jesus by Matthew Kelly. An incredibly popular book from a well-known author, this book is also written as a daily devotional complete with questions to ponder, verses to study and prayer prompts. He offers up some great nuggets to study and think about, it’s a great book to make you find the answers to spiritual questions that are bogging you down.
* Pretense by Lori Wick. I usually have a Lori Wick book close by all the time. She is my favorite Christian fiction writer, and I have 95% of her entire literary collection. As much as I love her historical books, the contemporary stories always touch my heart. This one is about writers, so I love that aspect, and the way she crafts a story around salvation and sharing your testimony makes my heart happy.
What books are on your bookshelf this winter? What books would you recommend to someone looking for new authors and titles?
