Where Two Or Three Are Gathered - National Day Of Prayer 2019
Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them. Matthew 18:18-20
What a precious promise from our Lord that our prayers of faith will be answered. In a day and time when evil and corruption and horrendous acts are growing more and more prevalent, we may be tempted to doubt whether our prayers are making it past the ceiling. How encouraging it is to read Jesus’ own words that it shall be done.
On this National Day of Prayer, individuals and groups all over the country will be dropping to their knees today to join together in prayer. Millions of prayers for forgiveness, blessing and reconciliation in a devastated and discouraging time. Our nation’s condition may be desperate, but our God is infinitely more powerful than the evils that surround us.
You may not be in a place today where you can gather with other believers under the same roof to pray. Jesus said in this passage that where two or three are gathered, He would be in the midst. If we are praying in His name, with the Holy Spirit living inside us, I firmly believe that our hearts and souls are gathered together. You may want to call a friend and prayer together over the phone. You can text loved ones and ask for their prayer requests. Look on your social media platforms for people who are in urgent need of prayer.
Our hearts and prayers lifted as one will not go unnoticed. Jesus Christ sits at the right hand of the Father, making intercession for us. I can only imagine what the throne room must be like today as countless prayers will be shared on our behalf by the Son of God. Let your voice be heard and join in the chorus of prayer.
But this glorious prayer time doesn’t end when the sun goes down tonight. I pray that we will all continue to offer up fervent, specific prayer in the days to come, as well. We all know so many people who need strength, comfort, peace and joy from our gracious Heavenly Father. We don’t need a specific day to ask the Lord’s blessing and care in our lives, but today is still a wonderful day to rest in Christ’s promise of answered prayer.
