Creating A Quiet Time Space Just For Me
While I love routine and I love sticking to a plan, there’s nothing that bores me more than being in a rut. You know that a rut is just a grave with the ends kicked out, right?
For many months now I have set up a quiet time space at the dining room table. We have an enormous table that’s super high so I can slide on and off the chairs more easily. It really helps my fibromyalgia to not get up and down all the time.
That being said, I don’t like the clutter of having the table covered in books and papers. And I also don’t like putting all my study supplies in bags and boxes every morning when I’m done with them. Yes, I know that’s super picky, but it definitely helps my state of mind to have clear, clean spaces around me.
So the answer was to completely rearrange the living room.
Ok, there may have been other answers, but this one was too much fun. We’ve started leaving the puppies out with Molly part of the day instead of keeping them in their crate, so the carpet needed cleaning. I still had some fall decorations out (don’t ask), and the windows were covered in doggie nose art. So I decided that if I had to move everything in the living room out anyway, I would set it back up with a special quiet time space just for me.
Now I have my big, fluffy chair and ottoman; a bookshelf to hold all my Bibles, study books and journals; an adjustable lamp; and a table for my writing supplies and cappuccino. It is an inviting place to sit, read, study and journal first thing in the morning. And the view can’t get any better than this. The only way not to have a beautiful view in our living room is to sit in the middle of the room facing the wall of the kitchen. Which would be weird.
Do you have a special place where you go for your morning devotions? What do you have their that inspires you and encourages your soul? I’d love for you to share your answers in the comments below. And if you couldn’t answer either of those questions, I’d encourage you to set up a place - just for you - so you can spend quiet time with the Lord every single morning.
