Preparing Your Heart Before Preparing Your Home

It’s not even December yet and I’m on the verge of being overwhelmed. That’s not fair, is it? Between working from home, taking care of the house, praying for my husband like crazy, planning December activities for the youth group and practicing Christmas hymns, I’m pretty scared to even make a list of everything I’d like to get done.

Honestly, I just want to bake cookies, drink cappuccino and read books. Period. Call me when it’s all over.

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6

More than 500 years before the birth of Jesus Christ, Isaiah knew what was important. He spoke of the birth of the Messianic King as certainly as if it had already happened. The Child was already born, the Son already given and the Prince of Peace already here. That name which is above all names is His character, His Spirit. Jesus Christ is the reason for all things, not just one season of the year.

The baking will get done, as will the work and the house. God will bless this Christmas the way He always does, and our church family will grow and thrive and celebrate. It’s time to let the One whose name is Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father and Prince of Peace be what His name says He is.

Prepare my heart, Lord, for the celebration of your arrival here on earth.
