How Are You At Following Instructions?

Let’s say that I gave you a bag of balloons and a roll of masking tape. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to build the tallest balloon tower that you possibly can. The only rules are that it has to be free standing, you can’t hold it up, you can only use tape for support, colors don’t matter and size of the balloons doesn’t matter. Oh, and don’t touch it with anything pointy or you’ll probably have to start over. What would your strategy be? Do you think you could win this one?

Would you be able to follow the directions? Do you remember the instructions, or would you just start building and hope for the best? Unfortunately, that’s how many Christians live their lives. They know the basics of what the Bible says, but they haven’t really paid attention to God’s instructions in their lives. The balloon tower of their heart might look really good from a distance, but if it’s built according to the directions, it won’t be worth anything at the end of the day.

We can read all the Scripture and books and devotions we want, but if we’re not asking God for the wisdom to really listen and then apply His word to our daily lives, we’re never going to stand firm and tall and strong. My prayer for you and for myself is that we won’t just read words today. I want to read and learn and glean absolutely everything I can out of my time with the Lord, not just go through the motions. I hope that you’re all in with me. We can pray for each other.
