Are You Spending More Time In The World Than In The Word?
I have a few questions for you to start this Monday.
Do you push aside your quiet time just so you can get stuff done?
Have you been carrying around your Bible or study book with you but haven't even opened it?
Do you ever start to read or study and suddenly remember there was something else you were supposed to do?
Would you spend more time in prayer if you just had an extra few minutes here or there?
I ask these questions as we begin a new week because I've found all three of them in my life recently. I don't want to continue down this slippery slope of not spending time in God's word, and if you're recognizing yourself in some of these statements, I don't want to you neglect your Bible time, either.
Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever. 1 John 2:15-17
God's word says is will is for us to love Him, seek Him and obey Him. We can't love, seek or obey Him if we aren't saturating our souls with His word. When anything from this life in the world, though we're not of it anymore, comes between us and our time with the Lord, that anything has to go. Stuff and life and the world distract us from what's really important - preparing our heart to live for God every single day.
My prayer for each of us in the week to come is that we'll scrutinize our priorities and put our time with the Lord before absolutely everything else we have planned. Only then will we put our love for God above our love of anything temporal that takes up our thoughts and our desires.
