Clinging To Scripture In Difficult Times
I had no idea that the Scripture used in our church's Sunday service last weekend would affect my heart so deeply this week.
I had no idea how I would cling to the words God gave King David thousands of years ago.
And I had no idea that my mom would pass away the day after I studied these verses from Psalm 19.
The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes. The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward. Psalm 19:7-11
My heart is broken and raw, but Scripture is the salve I need to heal. God's word is the comfort I need when I'm absolutely aching.
David simply echoes what's going through my mind today.
I believe the word of the Lord is perfect.
I know that all the wisdom I need for this terrible time is found there.
I know that when I read it, it will always bring my focus back to Him.
I know that regardless of my circumstances, His word will soothe my heart.
I believe, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that the answers I need right now are found in Scripture.
I know that when I hurt, I will find peace in the word of God.
Whatever you're going through today, Scripture has the answer. Our merciful heavenly Father has filled our Bibles with everything we need for today, tomorrow, and the rest of our earthly lives. And when we're living with Him for all eternity, we'll have the mind of Christ and understand just how perfect His word is.
So let's dig in.
