Taking Outdoor Pictures Like A Pro

I would much rather take outdoor photos than indoors. Natural lighting and ever-changing landscapes make outside backdrops challenging, but also so much fun. Here are a few ways to make sure you take outdoor pictures like a pro.

Perspective is everything, so change your viewpoint. Crouch down, raise the camera above your head, anything but straight on and boring!

Check out your lighting source - the direction of the sun. Shooting into the sun will overexpose your photo, and people looking into the sun will just squint at you. Turn about 90 degrees so the sun will be to your side and slightly behind you.

Be patient and wait for even better shots. Changing sunshine, wind, and even rain drops can turn an ordinary composition turn extraordinary in a heartbeat - if you'll just hang on for a bit.

Choose a great focal point. A path winding back into the timber. A single tree bathed in sunshine. A creek tumbling over rocks. That focus will turn a so-so composition into a fascinating one.

Don't forget to enjoy the moment. Resist the urge to spend all your time looking through your camera and miss the experience of just being outside. If you're having a great time exploring, you'll find some amazing and memorable pictures to take. And those are the best ones anyway.
